Fountains Abbey

Yorkshire's Fountains Abbey has been described as the 'crown and glory of all that monasticism has left us in England'; being one of the largest and best preserved Cistercian monasteries in the country. It was founded in 1132 and operated for over 400 years until 1539, when Henry VIII ordered the Dissolution of the Monasteries.
